Ptarmicon 2019 Cosplay Contest

- Official Rules -

 

  • All participants must be in cosplay. Cosplay is defined as the depiction of a character from an existing anime, video game, TV series, movie, book or comic.

    • Original creations are permitted so long as the costume is immediately recognizable as a costume (no plainclothes).

    • In the case of book cosplay, plainclothes are permitted so long as the costume matches either a description from the source material or an artist’s rendition of the character.

  • Each participant must fill out an entry form.

  • Participants must provide their name for the purpose of identification.

    • Nicknames are permitted so long as they are all-ages appropriate.

  • Participants must provide their age to determine contest placement.

    • Minors (ages 12 and under) must have their entry form signed by their parent or guardian. Unaccompanied minors will be dealt with per convention policy.

    • Minors aged 11 and 12 may enter the Youth contest with parent or guardian permission. Those who do forfeit any prizes from the Child division.

    • Participants 16 years of age may decide to enter the Youth or the Adult contest.

  • All participants must be registered before contest registration closes at 3:15 PM. Participants must check-in with cosplay staff at the stage area prior to the event start time. Failure to check-in will result in disqualification.

  • All participants will adhere to Ptarmicon 2014 convention policy throughout the duration of the Cosplay Contest. Inappropriate, reckless or dangerous behavior is grounds for immediate disqualification and may result in expulsion from the convention.

  • Youth Contest (0-15)

    • Prizes will be awarded to the top two (2) costumes, as determined by convention staff. Costumes will be judged on skill level, craftsmanship and accuracy/design (if an original creation).

    • Store-bought, commissioned and assisted costumes are eligible for prizes, so long as the participant discloses this information upon entry to the contest. Such costumes will be awarded an automatic pre-determined craftsmanship score. Failure to disclose or falsification of information will result in immediate disqualification and one (1) year ban from future contests.

  • Adult Contest (16 and older)

    • Prizes will be awarded to the top two (2) costumes, as determined by convention staff. Costumes will be judged on skill level, craftsmanship and accuracy/design (if an original creation).

    • Store-bought, commissioned and assisted costumes are not eligible for prizes. Exceptions may be made for props or small costume pieces, assessed on a case-by-case basis. Failure to disclose or falsification of information will result in immediate disqualification and one (1) year ban from future contests.

  • Judge’s Award (All)

    • The Judge’s Award is awarded to one participant from any of the three categories whom cosplay staff deem their “favorite” of all entries. This may be determined on a number of factors, including: craftsmanship, accuracy/design, audience reception, etc.

    • Store-bought, commissioned and assisted costumes are eligible for this prize.

  • Any questions or concerns regarding these rules may be addressed to cosplay staff at any point prior to the actual contest event.

    • Disagreement with costume judging may be brought up to cosplay staff in a respectful manner after the Cosplay Contest. However, cosplay staff reserve the right to not disclose costume judging information to promote fairness.
